The ProActive Therapeutics programme for living with long term health conditions
Mind and Body
The Problem: long term health problems such as diabetes, arthritis, back pain, cancer and heart disease are on the rise. Many people have more than one disease. Problems such as back pain and depression are the leading reasons why people fall out of the job market and the costs to employers and the NHS is £300 Billion. Depression or anxiety are present in around half of people with long term conditions, and they make things much worse. The risks of dying early and of poor quality of life are much higher.
The ProActive Therapeutics solution: depression and anxiety are treatable for people with long term conditions. Instead of ignoring depression, behavioural strategies help people to start doing more. Activation improves both physical and mental health. It saves money for the NHS and for employers.

The MOVEMBER men’s mental health programme for the workplace
Performance Habits 5-Reps
The ProActive Therapeutics solution: We worked in partnership with MOVEMBER to change this and we designed the Performance Habits solution. 5-REPS is a simple, five-stage, five-week mental fitness programme for men. It provides a structured framework to build resilience, establish healthy routines, and develop effective coping strategies, empowering men to take charge of their mental wellbeing and perform at their best in work and life. Through structured habit-building and goal-oriented actions, 5-REPS empowers men to take control of their mental wellbeing, fostering resilience and long-term positive change.
Find out more: the Performance Habits 5-Reps programme has been road tested in the NHS workforce and in industries where there are high rates of sickness absence for male workers.

The MOVEMBER mental health programme for elite sports
Performance Habits Elite Programme
The Problem: The mental health of people in competitive sporting environments is often ignored. It is difficult to admit to problems and these are often deeply-stigmatised. Yet people in every level of elite sports experience worry, depression and stress. We identified a need to provide evidence based care and to act early before problems become entrenched and performance becomes compromised.
The ProActive Therapeutics solution: We partnered with MOVEMBER to design a six-week mental fitness programme designed for elite footballers in the first instance. We offer a simple, confidential way to build routines, strengthen focus, and stay resilient — helping players stay sharp, handle pressure, and perform at their best on and off the pitch. It has been designed to be responsive to their needs, how their lives are, and help them put in place healthy routines and schedules that will help them stay well but also enhance their performance when they are on the field
Find out more: In the first instance we have partnered with Premier League football teams to develop our programme. Read more about our partnership and how we support young players at Leeds United. This programme can be adapted for both men and women, and for any sport. Get in touch if you are interested in partnering with ProActive Therapeutics and MOVEMBER to optimise the mental wellbeing of people in your sport.

The York Toolkit to optimise workplace mental health
Back to Work
The Problem: Long term sickness absence and economic inactivity are on the rise. Depression and anxiety are now the leading reason that people fall out of the workforce. Presenteeism is a major threat to competitiveness for organisations.
The ProActive Therapeutics Solution: offering support from the outset is key to the ProActive Therapeutics. This helps keep people in work or ensures a quick return to work before things become entrenched solution. We have devised a programme known as the York Return to Work Toolkit. Returning to work reinstates daily activity and leads to improvements in mental health.
Find out more: We have shown that early behavioural intervention works in the NHS. We are working with a number of employers and insurers to deliver the York ‘Back to Work Toolkit’. Professors Gilbody and McMillan spoke with Isabel Berwick from the Financial Times about the York toolkit. Simon Gilbody recently discussed the York Toolkit with Dr Tarun Gupta, Medical Director of Legal and General Group Protection.

The ProActive Therapeutics connects programme to prevent workplace loneliness
Connected Workplaces
The Problem: Loneliness affects around 1/3 of employees. It is bad for mental and physical health; in fact, as bad for health as smoking 15 cigarettes per day. It is increasingly recognised as a source of lost productivity and increased staff turnover. Lonely employees are unhappy workers. Rates have risen since the COVID pandemic.
The ProActive Therapeutics solution: Loneliness is fixable if we are vigilant and offer evidence-based solutions. At ProActive Therapeutics we can help you create more inclusive workplaces and to recognise loneliness within the workforce. We have scalable solutions that help to prevent loneliness becoming entrenched and to maintain good mental health. Our telephone support programme is designed to prevent loneliness in the workforce and is especially helpful for organisations with dispersed workers, including those who work from home [‘WFH’].
Find out more: In 2025 Professor Simon Gilbody partnered with LawCare, the leading charity supporting the mental health of the Legal Profession, and ProActive Therapeutics to speak with the Financial Times about their evidence-based strategies. We can help you and your organisation prevent loneliness and create a connected workforce. Get in touch if you would like to find out more.
